Once the boy showed up in my life and we started watching the Avengers and Justice League cartoons, I realized how white the superhero world was and how important representation is.

I am here for every retcon the movies do to the characters. So many character origins are just embarrassingly racist; Falcon started as a pimp for God’s sake. Change races, back stories, gender, sexuality. Make it good and I will watch. (Mostly. Dr. Strange is a dork and always will be.).

That’s how a good Marvel villian should be. You can kinda see where they’re coming from, but they’ve become twisted just enough they don’t realize they’re the bad guy. This was definitely a Marvel movie for grown-ups.

It had real emotional weight and wasn’t a CGI shitshow in the third act. Killmonger was an amazing villian exactly because you can see where his motivations are coming from. Even to the point it forces T’challa to re-examine his nation and it’s place in the world.

I was not the only one who let out a “Damn!” when that line landed in the theater.
