Surely you can see the difference between you calling up three hospitals and medical professionals publishing long-term research studies? I suspect you have differing levels of access to info. There are loads of studies on this, some of them with giant sample sizes. I suggest you spend a little time googling. I was

I don’t know. I’ve never heard of that. Sounds interesting though, so thanks. I wonder if it is true, however. Someone pointed out the very good example of Dr. Ben Carson who is undoubtedly a real intelligent expert in one thing and a complete fool in plenty others without being aware that he is a fool. I’ve seen this

There are several famous studies that demonstrate all this. It’s a type of cognitive bias. Look for Dunning-Kruger effect and that’s a good place to start. I can’t remember most of it now, but I had to read about this in a pedagogy course once upon a time, lol. Also, it’s something Malcolm Gladwell has written about-

Yup. This. That woman is supposed to be our advocate?

I watched it once, and it was great. But twice- I can't do it. I want to punch that guy so bad. It's terrible for my blood pressure, my fist and my computer.

It's the same sort of indoctrination and paranoia that made politicians in the 50s teach children to be on the lookout for Commies or to do duck and cover drills.

She worked on the show for years. I’m sure everyone was well aware of her position. There was no reason to make a formal offer. Also, it’s savvy on her part too because she has chosen a new format which is fresh and allows her to shine rather than trying to fill Jon Stewart's shoes. Also, I think the writing on her

Thanks.

Oh gotcha! Sorry, one of the beginning posts in this thread was about someone's coworker telling them to put onions in their socks to cure a sinus infection or something, and I thought you were referring to that! Yes I agree there are all sorts of totally rational home remedies for minor ailments, and I didn't know

Yes I have seen stats about homebirth (midwife attended) in Canada and Europe, and their infant mortality rate and transport rate are both much lower than the same in the US. I don’t know anything about why though. Do they have better equipment with them there? I just recently had a family member hemorrhage and have

Good luck in India! I’ve found it’s the air that really gets kiddos sick there. If he’s vaccinated and you are mindful of food/water (and I’m sure you are) then really it’s just the air you have to worry about over there. I can’t even go to Delhi in the winter at all because it’s so bad. In the summer, I go, but I

Sure, but onions on your feet aren't going to absorb toxins from your body nor are they going to help your sinus infection get better. I can see that having some food products on your chest / face /vaporizer might help, and like you say, I bet there are all sorts of ways food products can help for skin irritations.

Real, I think. But I'm pretty sure on some level he knows exactly why everything he said is wrong and is hoping for an argument.

Anthony Kiedis is a great example of a guy who is not nearly as hot as he thinks he is. I mean, technically, he has a good body and a pretty face. But he’s so NOT attractive for some reason. And he doesn’t know it. He has always reminded me of that obnoxious high school prep jock type.

It was a lame apology. "I'm sorry it made you feel bad" is not the same as "I'm sorry I acted like a douche."

Ha ha! Good counterpoint. Baffling fellow, that one.

But what is the point of a midwife assisted home birth as opposed to a midwife assisted birth center or hospital birth? I just don't understand why in god's name anyone would take that chance. And I've seen it damage enough people that I'm not shutting up about it any more. Not that you asked me of course, I know that.

Glad your baby is fine and that you are so conscientious!

I have my own remedies for little colds, and they work a lot of the time. Sometimes it’s just soothing the symptoms. Other times, I think there is some antibacterial stuff going on- usually to do with acidity, etc. And I also believe that certain foods can help boost the immune system or reduce inflammation.

There are several studies that show that the less you know about something, the more you underestimate your own ignorance. What I've noticed is that all it takes is really learning ONE THING very well, and then you are able to see how complicated and complex most things are, and it allows you to judge your own
