It is actually is safer to move out of the passing lane and let cars pass you. If you change lanes to the right with the cars going the same speed as you, the faster drivers can easily pass in the passing (left) lane with very little risk to anyone.

If I am in the act of passing and someone comes screaming up behind me I will use my turn signal to indicate that I see them and will move out of the way as soon as possible.

Repeat after me: the left lane is NOT the “fast lane” it is the passing lane. It is for passing, not for cruising, regardless of your speed.
