I’m with you, I work in IT all day, but I still like a challenge and it’s usually pretty simple stuff. I also like educating people about making some better choices. Especially with their backups! Toss it in dropbox, a external drive, whatever.
Honestly I rarely ran into a problem. I pushed updates usually either by major version or major changes. Flash, Java, Reader, etc were low priority updates. I also used SCCM which I would highly recommend to an IT Admin.

I'm lucky to have one relatively close by. At the service desk if you are an AAA member, you receive an additional card that is good at certain stores for additional discounts.
