The big difference is that most of the established insurance carriers aren’t using dongle/app data in claims, they just aren’t. They use it in underwriting to match price to risk. Tesla on the other hand doesn’t have a fucking clue what they’re doing and will undoubtedly try and do the things you’re talking about,…

My best guess is they haven’t even bothered to look into this yet. They just think they’ll self insure and try and subrogate out all the claims. 

Yeah but an insurance company can spread that risk out across their entire business, what’s Tesla going to do when they’re in the same spot? Additionally mass insurer’s are able to get special rates from rental car companies due to the scale of rentals, what’s Tesla going to be able to get? You think GM/Ford/BMW…

Tesla is going to get it’s ass eaten in the insurance market. 

Given that Rivian still needs to completely overhaul their former Mitsubishi factory to actually produce these things I would imagine that’s where this seed money is going, but I could be wrong. 

So I guess I’m confused why it would need a new gas tank and rhino lined floors if there wasn’t a rust problem?
