The qualms in your description are perfectly valid, and yet I still love that nonsense of a Shōnen series. The dub is one of the few I can stand, namely because it’s so comically absurd and self-aware. It makes for solid background noise at the very least.

Yeah, I’ve lived in and around Chicago and, for a time, the more bumblefuckerish parts of Wisconsin for most of my life, so I know the type well. Right down to their gaming habits. (Chicago and a handful of suburbs are an oasis, but, truly, the rest of Illinois may as well fly Confederate colors.)

Yeah, it did have some issues. At one point, I stopped playing it for a few months because it kept locking up whenever I tried to go inside Penguin's boat. That did get patched though.

The only way I don’t qualify first the first 2-3 rounds is either due to a comedy of errors or because of a team-based game. I don’t know that I’ve ever not qualified on the first round. If I did get disqualified first round, it most certainly was something like I got trampled and just sat there rolling underfoot…

It was one of the strangest feelings booting that game up and IMMEDIATELY knowing it was trash despite nothing technically being wrong with it. I’ve never seen a game screw up the je ne sais quoi so badly.
