Like it or not, the Patriot Act is still the law. Therefore, those officials that act under its purview are, by definition, not acting outside any laws. Furthermore there is leeway (up to the discretion of the officials in question) regarding the extent to which an individual can be searched, ticketed, sentenced, etc.…
