These are some of the wealthiest, well-educated, well-connected people in our country. I grew up knowing a few. Don’t waste your tears - of course it’s a hardship, but it’s (a) one they knew was coming because their position is contingent on the president and (b) one they have more than enough resources to THRIVE

If being allowed to remain at a post past the innaguration is NOT special treatment, then why are requests to remain in place considered on a case-by-case basis? What is the review process for, if not to afford privilege to some but not all? If there is no special treatment, why not just allow ALL Ambassadors to

I did read the article. Some Ambassadors were expecting special treatment due to family or other circumstances. And that special treatment is not being extended.

Ambassadors know that their terms end when a new President is elected. They have plenty of time to make preparations. And they know that they are not guaranteed an extension because of family obligations.

You’re fucking relentless. No, I’m not going to read the comments for you. I don’t have a lot of time for your hostility. I’m at battle assembly this weekend and have some other things to do. If you agree with the comments that portray this as more of an injustice than it is, good for you. I really don’t care all that

Basically any comment that paints this situation as some sort of tragedy. If you haven’t gotten that impression from reading the comments, then you probably won’t be convinced by my explaining it to you.

Have you read the comments? I was using hyperbole, but the outrage over this issue is over the top.

I’m sure people are just as empathetic when an executive’s kid has to move. I have empathy but because Trump is doing it, it’s treated like the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto.

Sooo this is fairly standard stuff that happens every time there’s a change in administration?

Please do share, how exactly did the last administration handle things differently? Do you actually know?

Obama did something similar to Bush-era appointees, as have other Presidents-elect. Essentially the President-elect is telling them to leave their posts the day he takes over:

Actually, a lot of people in New York like Donald Trump. And voted for him. And if you think New Yorkers “have the local pols and administrators by the short and curlies,” you haven’t been paying attention. No one is treated with greater contempt by their politicians than New York City voters.

I’m almost certain that the GOP powers in the House and Senate have already conferred with constitutional and trial lawyers, and have a gaggle of impeachment proceedings at the ready for when he inevitably does something abhorrent.

Mike Pence is a former, multi-term Congressman with close ties to both chambers of

Well, it isn’t a rule, and it is completely normal, despite the NY Times clickbaity headline. Obama did the same thing to Bush’s appointees. In response, some asked for extensions for personal reasons, and they were granted them.

We’ll see if that happens after we all calm right the f*ck down.

There are probably very few rules in this area. It is probably mostly in the area of custom rather than rule.

Not all ambassadors, only political appointees (who were appointed by Obama and would leave at the end of his term anyway). Career ambassadors will remain at post.

If you click through to the article, there is an important distinction that’s missing in the post here. This applies to POLITICAL appointee ambassadors, who would lose their posts post-inauguration anyway. Career appointment ambassadors will remain at post. Unfortunately, political posts are usually the “important”

I guess I would have thought that most of them would have started making plans to move once the election was over. None were going to be retained by Trump as ambassadors because he is going to get the worst people possible.

I’ve lived in Saudi Arabia. The government has a long way to go. The legal system is a mess. Actually, there really isn’t a legal system, because it’s all based on sharia law. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the dystopian example that led to “sharia bans” in a handful of US states, actually.

“May men go extinct, they cause us to have mental illnesses,” they sing. Hell yeah.
