Another deeply upsetting little nugget reported by Texas Tribune:

Ha! Unfortunately not, although certainly not for lack of my encouraging him to do so. He’s extremely dedicated to the work, despite HR being a total nightmare.

IIRC, federal labor law does not protect the majority of social media postings (fun side note: my partner was placed on probation for saying on FB that the Confederate flag and supporting what it symbolizes is racist) but it does protect certain content that is critical of one’s workplace.

Oh absolutely he did. I mean, that was his defense against every sexual assault and harassment claim.

Lol this is like the dude who asks a woman out, gets rejected, then calls her an ugly bitch he never wanted to sleep with anyway.

I interned at Southwest Key’s headquarters in 2010, mostly providing communications support for their charter school (which, side note, Draylen Mason was a student of at the time of his murder), and I’m horrified. At the time, I remember admiring their push for juvenile justice reform, but obviously did not adequately

Check out RAICES! I did a search, feeling helpless myself (and I’m in Texas, but a 9-hour drive from the border).

And not just the translation but the entire process of assembling the “canon” was extensive and political!

I attended far too many weddings in my twenties where the pastor repeatedly exhorted women to serve their husbands and let him lead. All justified by citing a single Bible passage from Ephesians 5!

I think it’s important to create as many opportunities for access to care as possible, which is why I support text hotlines, although I will say that the hotline I used to work with really struggled with our particular text services, because of word limits and frequent disconnections - hopefully the Crisis Text Line

100% what you said. This is a megachurch with multiple locations and a congregation full of college students and young families. It infuriates me to think of how influential this pastor is, and the harm he’s done to people who think they can’t rightfully leave for good. It’s fucking irresponsible to put the burden of

I think that’s how forgiveness works! Everyone gets to do what they want because nothing matters!

White evangelicals are obsessed with maintaining cultural dominance, which they don’t understand (or actively deny) as a central tenet of white supremacy. This was a really great and important piece.

On the subject of destroying property not being abusive:

The showrunner’s defense of the rape scene (which I have not and will not watch) is disingenuous as fuck. He claims that he wants to remove the very real stigma attached to being a male victim of sexual assault...by making a male victim of sexual assault into a potential school shooter. His statement also says that

Depending on the nature of his delusions and whether he was also experiencing any suicidal ideation, it may not have been safe to drive him to the hospital either; when I worked for my county’s psych hotline, we definitely got lots of calls where people had just tried to throw themselves out of moving vehicles either

Oh my god. For some reason, I find her use of ‘n for “and” particularly chilling...it’s a very inappropriately lighthearted way of telling someone you want to wear their fascia??

I live in Austin and thought about this a lot during the package bombings - the presumption of white innocence that allowed a man to rig explosives on the side of a residential street, stalk homes on the east side, and ship packages at a Fed Ex store wearing gloves and an obvious wig during the most highly publicized

That comment section yesterday was a mess. And given how many people I’ve seen critical of FOSTA/SESTA & concerned about their impact, rightfully so, I was really surprised to see how closed-minded commenters were about SBs.

The Oregonian’s reporting was thorough and damning of Jennifer and Sarah Hart. I know their friends are grieving, but it’s incredible to me that anyone could have any doubts as to what happened.
