Communication works at lightspeed. Since many systems are multiple light years away from each other, you’d have to wait years for a reply to your communication. That wouldn’t work.
In universe it actually makes sense that phones won’t work intergallactically. Grav jumps enable ships to travel across solar systems, but everything else is still limited to the speed of light. So realistically you can’t talk to someone in real time unless they are on the same planet as you.

The changes in 2.0 certainly improve things but fundamentally, most of the game remains unchanged from launch. If you played the game on PC at launch, it was still a very entertaining experience.

It’s a decent MMO if you are looking for something that isn’t WoW/FFVIX/SWTOR/whatever else tab target 123456789 combat. It’s also really nice looking and has beautiful sound design. I don’t think it nails the promises it tried to make at launch about how PvP and the economy should work but there’s an enjoyable game…
