Other data may well show if Hogwarts was a commercial success - I don’t doubt WB has tons of data - but other data isn’t this data, and this data is the data I called meaningless. This table only uses revenue, which can’t indicate commercial success by itself, but on top of that the table doesn’t even show the revenue

the best-selling game of 2023

Mocap uses both props and sound stages, so I didn’t find it that clear. I’m more mystified that Minecraft of all franchises would be done live action. That’s just bizarre.

That’s fair. I haven’t written FR off, it’s just lower on my list. I do intend to check it out at some point but it’s not an automatic yes like AC and Far Cry usually are.

The last article (https://kotaku.com/minecraft-movie-jack-black-jason-momoa-1851136275) says this is a live action film. What...?

Is this defence of a billion dollar company in the room with you right now? Because it’s definitely not in my comment.

About what? That games are a luxury entertainment product, that you have the option to not play the game at all, or that piracy doesn’t communicate to publishers what some people think it does?

You ignored the whole argument.

You’re not talking about the same thing they’re talking about. The people you replied to (and the article) are talking about Ubisoft’s $18/month subscription service, which is very much a rental and not marketed anywhere as a sale, and how their execs seem to want users to grow accustomed to subscribing for games

Good point! I was thinking mainly about the initial purchase but unless the company is sending out USB sticks for major patches too, then there’s not much you can do about about all the post-release downloading as well.

I think there’s always going to be a business case for physical media, it’s just a question of whether companies will continue to cater for it. Even if bluray economies of scale stopped working because of low demand, I think adding $10 to the retail price for a game on a 128GB USB stick would still be pretty

For sure. Using AI trained on public or external models without guaranteed consent is hypocritical for companies that invest in DRM and combatting piracy.

Can’t tell if you’re joking, but obviously “not A” doesn’t mean “definitely B”. Disagreeing with Matt’s reasoning doesn’t mean anything other than disagreeing with Matt’s reasoning.

Let’s not lose perspective, we’re talking about luxury entertainment here. Piracy isn’t your only option, your main option is to just not play the game if you don’t like its price or monetisation. I’m saying this both as a former game developer and as someone who pirated a lot in my past: you’re not entitled to take

Stephen, I don’t know if you’re aware, but it’s 2024 now. A decade since 2013 was last year.

If it’s your intent to distance yourself from the ‘irrational fanboy’ stereotype, I think repeatedly mischaracterising the article and lumping all responses together as ‘weebs yelling at me’ are the wrong approaches to take.

Studies have shown a significant correlation between whales and addiction-based gaming disorders. Yeah, wealthy people exist, but there are more ethical ways to solicit their funding than exploiting FOMO and addiction through grossly overpriced digital goods.

Nobody’s under the illusion this package is mandatory, so pointing out that you don’t have to buy it is a straw man. The problem is that it exists at all, that CIG are even selling digital items at this price point in the first place.

Windows 11 guarantees support for 8th gen Intel and AMD 2000 up, so by the time Windows 10 goes EOL late next year, ineligible CPUs will be at least 9 years old. I think for the people who are still plugging away with decade-old hardware at that point, just stay with Windows 10. It’s not like the OS will just up and

Personally I wouldn’t include the silver rating, which brings it down to 78%. Even fewer hit the T1/T2 ratings for out-of-the-box play at 42%. Outside those percentages you’re required to tweak things (which is fine!) but people should just be aware before jumping ship that the clean OOTB set of games with Proton is a
