Yesterday, somebody I respect was talking about Trump and how people have to oppose him. And he make a decent point - Trump is so bad that he could also defy party at this point. Democrats are the opposition, but they’re expect to be. The most influential voices against Trump are more likely to come from within his

Except the CNN report was vastly different then the Buzzfeed one - CNN reported only those details they could actually verify. Bernstein knows that, which is why he put his name to it. And all the other outlets you mentioned also verified what they could before reporting. THAT is not the issue. The issue is Buzzfeed

I did not watch it much as child (only sporadically when it was part of TGIF) - I only remembered the show for the catchphrases it spawned - like “I’m the baby, gotta love me.” My husband’s older brother just told me about it when I randomly mentioned the show one day in passing. He was like “You knew they all died at

You may wish to revist the series finale of Dinosaurs then.

The problem is that plenty of smart people have come forward to address the ACA’s problems and propose solutions, but nobody wants to listen to them.

I think it’s a bit more complicated:

If you actually went to journalism school, doesn’t that make you even more of an embarassment for defending this -since, you know, the ACTUAL journalists are all calling Buzzfeed out for this (David Corn, Julie Ioffe, etc.)? So that means that either you’re lying about that, or you missed the entire ethics

Except I don’t think there’s any excuse for releasing information that you know could be false - and it hurts their case that at least one portion of it DID turn out to be false. There’s no excuse to at least TRY to verify information, which they did not do. Seriously, one of the first tenants of journalism is to

Did you miss the part where Buzzfeed PUBLISHED it? Do you not see the difference between reporting upon the dossier’s existence and publishing it in full? (and BTW, CNN did that as well - you know, being actual journalism).

But none of that changes my point - that the media has a general duty to not report on unconfirmed or unverified material, and Buzzfeed did. Again, you have no point, so you just try to distract from the greater point.

But you could certainly draw a distinction between CNN making a choice to report only on material they could independently verify and Buzzfeed making a decision to report everything without attempting to distinguish between truth, unverifiable claims and falsehoods. Do you really not see the difference between the two?

Well, when CNN actually adheres to basic journalistic standards and Buzzfeed doesn’t....

I think the issue is that she’s been in Switzerland since she was 8 - so, 34 years. She might not have a lot of memories of life before Switzerland. She likely feels like Switzerland IS her homeland, so to her, she doesn’t view it as a foreigner criticizing the traditions of others, it just feels like criticizing her

Except they could have done what CNN did and ONLY report on the parts that were actually verified. So....why didn’t they? That’s the issue - that they did not bother to distinguish between the parts they could confirm and those parts they could not/didn’t bother. THAT is the distiction between actual journalism (like

I think the Edwards affair would have broken anyway eventually - the rumors had been around for years and it was just a matter of time before a legit media outlet looked at them. The Enquirer was on it long before anybody else, but that doesn’t make them a “real” news source. They report on political scnadals that

I think the congressional repubs are looking for a way to assert themselves and remind Trump that he still needs to deal with them, and Tillerson might be where they choose to make that stand from a practical point.

Except CNN confirmed that he has concrete evidence that he was in California on the date the alleged meeting took place, so....yeah. It’s false. It’s not “probably not.” It’s not true - he wasn’t there when the source claims he was.

I think it’s possible they will reject Tillerson. Rubio is not the only one taking issue with him - McCain and Graham has also both stated they have serious issues with him. Even for the GOP, appointing the CEO of an oil company as the nation’s top diplomat might be slightly much. We can hope....

Let us not forget that they are amazing for the active among us! I used my time at beaches to learn to surf, and tankinis are awesome because they are far, far less likely to get pulled off of you at any given time and also provide better coverage and more insurance against things, um, “popping out” at bad times.

No, they didn’t. They reported unverified (and in one case, demonstratively false) information.
