it FEELS like homework, though. what is the mcu even about anymore? like what are we, as an audience, building towards?

Because it dominates far too much of the cultural discourse and film-making world.

There’s that level of maturity, wit, and and intelligence we’ve come to expect from the comic book crowd. You’re a classy, classy fandom, you are.

Not many threads left, then.

Jesus, I cannot wait until this Marvel thing dies down.

If that’s typically British, then I wish the US would take after them. The mentality that rules are bendable or breakable for the rich and/or famous needs to be tossed out of our culture.

Except younger audiences are still consuming Harry Potter. Stuff that actually has the words “Harry Potter” in them, such as the recent reunion special and the game show, still gets a lot of success.

Eh, I mean maybe, but Cartoon Network and TBS had a Harry Potter game show a few months ago and both networks had higher ratings for that they had seen in YEARS. Moreover, the reunion special on HBO Max was also a smash hit. I’m also willing to bet whenever that new video game launches, it’ll sell 5 million copies

Just as one often sees a movie for multiple reasons, the number of reasons to *not* see this one keep piling up. The last one was really bad; the writer is an a-hole; do I really want to risk catching COVID to see this?  It’s just a question of which of the list of reasons is your top one; YMMV in that respect.

The other reason people are not going to see the film, Covid. I used to see at least one movie a week pre-pandemic. My friends did a dinner and movie night every Tuesday for the last decade, and I frequently went to another movie on the weekends with different friends or family. Many of us are still not going to movie

You know normally I wouldn’t respond to something like this, I mean this is such bad-faith arguing that what you respond? However, in this case, I could not help myself as I couldn’t stop laughing at this. Like this is legitimately one of the most hilarious things responses I’ve gotten in ages and there have been some

As a former HP super-fan, it’s partially both but even more that JKR has been creatively ever more disappointing since Deathly Hallows. Casual Vacancy is a bore. The Galbraith books (as far as I got) are a formulaic, fat-shaming, and misogynistic bore. The Cursed Child text is an absolute mess, the worst fan-fictiony,

Seems like a good fit. Everyone says the show is on autopilot now.

I’ve found the baroque composers to be the best. Corelli, Vivaldi, etc. Not a joke. I’ve been listening to Corelli’s 12 Concerti Grossi since I was probably 7-8 years old and it’s my thinking music. Highly recommend the St. Martins in the Field version.

I’m a designer and I’ve found the exact same thing; instrumental edm really helps my process. But not the creation process, the production process. Coming up with an idea, for me, needs to be in a setting where there are no distractions. I’ve come up with some of my best ideas in the shower and in the car, with the

I can’t tell whether the reviewer made an effort not to compare the show to the awesome Harrison Ford movie or if he just didn’t know it existed. Anyway. Having been burned by too many of these shitty tv remakes, and even having been involved in making one or two, I’ll stick with the movie, methinks.

This seems like another example of the ‘what about this story is compelling past a feature length film’ issue that peak tv keeps coming up with. Having an actual existing movie to compare it to (and a good one at that) probably doesn't help

Jeez, I wish reasonable insurance was as easy to get in this country as firearms and high explosives.

I’m generally ok with people doing what they want as long as they don’t harm others, but this is just sick.

I’m going to open up some kind of “influencer hotel” that caters to influencers. However, behind the door to each room is a pit full of alligators.
