I see your point, but I think that Cobb’s lack of popularity amongst his fellow players had less to do with his racial attitudes (which a lot of them probably shared), and more to do with the fact that the dude was freakin’ psycho. He was just unpleasant to be around. Have a look at this.
Actually, it’s not all that clear. Hall of Fame voters in 1936 weren’t exactly Cobb”s peers. Then, as now, they were baseball writers, not fellow players. And, baseball writers, as has been demonstrated innumerable times over the years, don’t know nearly as much about baseball as they think they do.
