I think the essence was, you better be ready to start working the second the clock ticks over. At that old job I saw a lot of people show up exactly on time, but not really “ready to work” - they’d clock in, get coffee, etc. They didn’t get promoted :shrug:

At my first job I was told, “If you’re early, you’re on-time. If you’re on-time, you’re late. If you’re late, you’re fired.” It’s always stuck with me, and I take the same stance with those under me now. Wife, on the other hand, is hopeless. I’ve just started leaving without her :P

I haven’t experienced any of that - there HAVE been some L3 internet outages and whatnot lately, meaning some content providers have had to creatively route their traffic. It’s not impossible you were affected.
