I think it goes back to knowing how the state and county deals with snow. Around here, when things go bad you stick to the interstates and the State # roads. They will only work on clearing or even treating the other roads after the primary roads are clear.

I was thinking that slowly plodding along on the highway and driving to the conditions would be the safest. Would rather do 25 to 30 on the highway than take backroads that will be in worse shape and more miles.
