I can only blame non-A list actors for not doing this kind of thing so much though. If you’re still establishing a career this is sure to burn some bridges, those producers and who knows who else may never hire him again (even if they say otherwise.) I hope this only leads to good things for him.

Good on him! Taking a socially conscious stand publicly and forcing producers’ hand like this is admirable. I didn’t know who Ed Skrein was before he gave up a role in a movie I hadn’t planned to see, but I’ll remember him in the future—surely he’s caught the fair eye of some in the industry as well.

Kanye’s mom’s death? Jesus you’re really reaching now. Do you really think Swift did any research into the specific day? This is all label driven.

Who keeps track of the day that someone else’s mother died?

Or that being a “beauty icon” precludes a character from being anything else.

Gettin’ real tired of old white men telling me what is and isn’t feminist, in general.

This wasn’t James Cameron’s hill to die on. He might even have a point, but it just can’t come from an old white guy. Especially when the movie was directed by a woman, and was very well received by women at the box office.

“Felt like something of a revelation simply for being really, really competent.”

A rushed, hard-to-follow mess which consistently alienates its audience.

Not us! Isn’t it fun having our comments pending approval on a site some of us have been commenting on for years?

Jesse — nice review. AV Club — this layout is fucking horrible, the review is squashed into a third of the screen for its opening because of the cast box and your terrible left gutter, it’s a pain in the ass to read. And more importantly, why is this hiding in the Film section instead of being promoted on the front

The current state of things

DC and Warner Bros. are doing a fantastic job providing an example of how to royally screw up a cinematic universe.

I’m not sure this one is actually overlooked in reference to Nolan’s later films. In fact, I hear more often that people feel this is still one of his best. It’s a powerful film, to be sure, but I think Nolan’s best work was yet to come.

Some day I will grow up to be a real poster on here.

Concur. One of my favorite movies of all time.

The fondest thing regarding this movie for me is the Derrick Comedy sketch it inspired.
