I always felt that the best way to adapt the story (as well as another Koch novel, Summer House with Swimming Pool would be to split the screen into thirds, and have the pertinent flashbacks/thoughts appear on one of the other thirds while the action continues in the center, muted.

The only network I have that airs Frasier or Cheers is Hallmark, which leaves them abridged and censored.

The only other Koch book I've read is Summer House with Swimming Pool, which is pretty good, if a little problematic at times.

I mainly see it as a trial run for the practically-perfect Beauty and the Beast.

The film's biggest faults are its aggressive direction and fairly ugly production design, which was possibly a too-good parody of Schumacher's aesthetic. I think if those had been different, the film might have found an audience.
