I don't really get how doing a Rolling Stone cover story on a mass murderer and listening to rock music are equal in influencing whether someone commits mass murder...

I do not have a problem with it because it presents him as a regular-looking-guy. I understand that some people do, and I understand why that's a problem.

Yeah, it's hard to say. It reminds me of a friend whose mom beat the shit out of her dad because he hit her when she was pregnant. He hit her once, she threw him down the stairs, he ended up all bloodied up and she looked fine. You can't tell via visible injuries who started the fight, etc.

While I agree that many times it is myth that people who hate on a group worry about becoming/being members of that group, I think there's a good chance that it is accurate in this case. It's definitely true at least sometimes. Case in point: Amanda Bynes calling everyone "ugly" on twitter.
