I had 3 car seats across in a Pontiac Vibe, it can be done. The bigger seats were even Recaros, not exactly small for bolstering.

The issue with the Crosstour is packaging. Tallish rear seats with a low roofline is cramped, and the price wasn’t far enough away from the Pilot, which also gave you 7-seat options.
