With the caveat that there are people who are really as dumb as Robin came off, I’m thinking that guy’s an actor. The show strongly hinted at it, with Angela’s comments about how perfectly they clicked.

I really thought that Robin guy was an actor! Wild how Angela found a person that weird all by herself. Like, he just left? In the middle of the night? “Is that your bag?” Angela asks in disbelief. Same, girl, same. (Also, does Angela sound like someone doing a Kim Kardashian impression or is that just me?)
It’s a polite way of saying “Kevin Smith, who has made some real shit movies lately”
Man, there was just no narrative spine to this episode, was there?
The way this site decides what to review and not to review now is maddening. Honestly I think it’s just cheapness, in that they let reviewers pick their own shows to cover now, but only have the budget for a select amount. (Same goes for stupid BS “News” posts, really) The judgement for what they think people want…
I so wish we’ll finally get “Eye of the Tiger” on one of June’s glaring into-the-camera close-ups before the show’s end, ten years from now.
“It’s like you’re mad that it’s about Clarice Starling instead of being a reboot of Hannibal.”
what was so triumphal and epic about this?
It wasn’t religion that turned her into a monster. It was not getting laid. So there’s that.
It sounds like you saw EVERY episode of the show.
If one wanted to make a racial quibble with the show, it’s kind of unbelievable that a society so intolerant to women wouldn’t also be highly racist (we’ve seen some black commanders, for instance), but that’s a discussion for another time.
Now that you mention that the Martha’s are mostly black, I wonder if that’s so because more of the white women were able to get the hell out of Dodge because they had more means to do so.
June didn’t get that Martha or OfMathew killed. OfMathew chose to report back to Aunt Lydia. Gilead is what got them killed, but if anyone on the show got that Martha killed, it’s OfMathew. The then chose to rub that act in June’s face. She had the agency that made this happen (as much as any woman in Gilead has…
It’s really not that bad. Maybe these critics are having trouble following a show they’ve given up on, but I found the episode both clear and coherent.
I think you’re way too negative on the episode. Ann Dowd was great, and I really thought her backstory was persuasive in explaining how she got to where she is. I really don’t think the producers have any racial statement to make.. just so happens that most Marthas are black, and so happens to be Ofmathew.
I’ve not watched even a single episode of this show, but I was watching this one over my girlfriend’s shoulder (she had headphones on too, so couldn’t hear). All I saw was a lot of Elizabeth Moss making overly dramatic faces directly to the camera, and at one point, a whole lot of nostril. Then a black lady gets shot…
Deadwood came back just a month ago. Twin Peaks was on two years ago. You clearly aren't watching the right tv shows.
That would be something - but I get the feeling the show has forgotten there are Canadians in Canada. Canada is just ‘USA but not’ for the show.
Agreed about all (esp the scarf comment, haha!) But I’m wondering if the show is going to have Canadians start resenting the hell out of all the refugees—like we’re seeing in many countries (Germany, US, etc). I dread that turn, but I think it might be coming.
Yeah, Fred is definitely his new Beecher. No idea why no one has discussed this here
