No, you assumed it was a whim based on incomplete information and your opinion of Musk. If Tesla is in the 7:20's, it’s clearly the result of a determined effort by Tesla engineers that likely started over a year ago.

It’s a Mustang, so it’s lined with hard curbs and bystanders taking vertical videos.

“Is the Tesla S able to make it around the ring consistently without going into thermal management mode yet?”

HA, I grew up in Cape Coral. KIA dealers and Lee County are a match made in heaven.

Not to throw cold water on car investing, but... cars are not investments :)) The same money in the S&P500 with dividend reinvesting would be 254x, and once you throw in insurance/maintenance/storage/etc, the S&P500 is likely ahead.

Yep, the average BEV owner will spend far less time refueling than the ICE owner. Most people aren’t taking 19h road trips every week, but they do commute every weekday. Filling up 2-4 times per month vs almost never? Win for BEV.

Hey, when the zombie apocalypse comes, you’ll be able to get across the country to see your family in like three years if you have one of these. Try doing that in an ICE car after everyone else siphons all the gas tanks.

I found it handled quite well for a sedan with economy tires. With better tires (at the expense of mileage) I think it would be a pretty fun commuter.  I’d take it over most things that don’t have a stick shift.  I commute in a 6MT Boxster S so it’s not like I have low standards for fun :)

I find a basic EV more compelling to drive than a dull ICE economy car with a crappy CVT/auto. Even better if the BEV is RWD since there’s mostly no reason not to.

I had speeding tickets on BACK TO BACK days when I was 22 and driving across the country. Was I dangerous driver? Both tickets were 80 in a 70 on an interstate in rural areas where it wasn’t too busy.

Guessing I'ma NIMBY asshole since I’d call the police on somebody me and my neighbors don’t know camping in front my house.

Congrats on being homeless

0-100-0 was a big deal for the McLaren F1 when it came out, it was a stat mentioned pretty much everywhere.  Maybe it doesn’t mean much for someone too young to care about cars in the early 90s, but it reverberates with me.

Individuals changing their behavior will never solve the climate crisis because even if 50% of the population cares (unlikely), the other 50% will easily take up the slack and emit more. Especially so with billions still moving into the middle class.  National government taxation/regulation are (unfortunately) the

Yep, when people regularly put 15k+ miles/year on their 911s we should worry. But for now let’s focus on the 2M? full size trucks bought per year where most miles are done solo without hauling.

Wear a hat and sunscreen bro, skin cancer doesn’t make you tough (from a fellow norcal convertible owner).

I’ve had blind spot monitoring in every car I’ve ever owned, even the 80's and 80's models.  I adjust my side mirrors properly.

They are more difficult to access, from the latch mechanism, to the depth, and finally the reach over the bumper/radiator.

How about we just go BEV to get the mid-engined CoM and two trunks? It’s not like we need to invent a new chassis layout to get there.

It was a decent niche car until the Tesla 3 came out for <$40k, now it makes no sense.
