Producer: “Cue up something for the loss of Roy Halladay.”

So many of his contemporaries relied on overt signs of intimidation, from Randy Johnson’s scowl to Pedro Martinez’s childlike enthusiasm for blowing guys back with pant-filling fastballs. But Halladay just threw the shit out of the ball and dominated. He left the schoolyard bravado to others and let his work do the

90's kid here who as followed the Jays advidly during those dark times.

The man was the definition of a workhorse- 67 complete games over his 16 seasons, over 200 wins, and he could have won many many more if there was a better offense in Toronto. In the discussion of most dominant pitchers of the 2000s it is him, Pedro and Randy Johnson.

Shittiest time to be a Toronto sports fan period.

Oh geez, this is chilling. That headline made my jaw literally drop. Fuck.

I was at the Skydome for the final game of the 1998 season when Doc came within one out of no-hitting the Tigers. He was 21 years old and making his second career start.

It’s also worth noting that while he won two Cy Youngs, he was well on his way to one more before he got hit by a fluke comebacker and broke a bone in his shin in 2005 (still led the league in complete games, because he was Doc).

Pedro was amazing, but it always felt like the Yankees would be able to wait him out long enough and then beat up on the bullpen. Halladay used to just mow them down for 9 innings.

Yeah. He was the reason I never believed in the whole “good pitchers miss bats” thing. Doc didn’t miss all that many bats (best year in the AL was 208 Ks in 239 innings), but if guys made contact the ball sure didn’t go far. It would be Doc Warms Up - grounder - weak fly - grounder - Doc sits down, over and over and

Shocked and sad about this one. Halladay was maybe my favourite player on the Blue Jays of all time. He was such a great pitcher, and seemed a good guy. I went to many opening days to see him pitch, and was so happy when he got that perfect game, even if it wasn’t for Toronto. Really awful news.

I’m turning 40 in a month. I didn’t need reminders of my mortality.

Greatest pitcher I had the privilege of seeing live. He was such a workhorse. All those CGSOs. He had a mystic way of getting batters to follow his speed. As soon as he got the ball back he was ready to throw another. It was like the universe moved at a slower rhythm than he did. It seemed that every time he pitched,

This sucks in a way that’s hard to put into words. Halladay is someone I’d have driven to Cooperstown to see his induction. A personal hero from back when I still had those.

“Flags. I fucking hate flags. You fucking hate flags. Everyone fucking hates flags.”

Deadspin: The Dodgers had their shots.

Like others I really enjoyed this.

all of your stuff that you linked to isn’t as bad as the shit that comes out of the mouths of people like portnoy and travis.

Some people mature. Some people just have birthdays.
