“When I first began the Peace Corps, there were 33 of us in my swear-in group. 18 of us were women. And in 27 months, six of us have been raped.”

This entire story is heartrending, but this statistic just makes me angry. Does the Peace Corps quietly consider rape just another fact of volunteering? They should be held

If 6 of 18 women were raped in your class that suggests a serious problem in the way Peace Corps operates. You are letting them off too lightly here I think. It’s obvious that the locals know that you are not protected. Peace Corps should be kicking it Roman style. Instead they are abandoning you guys. Disgraceful.

Yaara, thank you for coming out. I can’t imagine the guts it took.

My problem with that is, time and time again, it has been fund that a lot of the people on death row are, in fact, INNOCENT of the crimes they on there for.

Once a person is restrained from continuing to do what they were arrested for, there is no reason to kill them. A person who is not an active threat — who is not out rampaging with a loaded gun, for example — is not someone you have to kill out of protection for yourself or others. And a lot of times, you don’t even

Nope! The purpose of breathing is to bring in oxygen, yes, but also get rid of carbon dioxide.

Fiscally, death row costs more and it doesn’t work as a deterrent. It’s morally reprehensible even if everyone on death row were actually guilty, and they’re not. I can of no reason the death penalty exists except revenge. Revenge is imperfect, we don’t operate on Batman justice. And even Batman doesn’t kill.

Top five! Woohoo! USA!

Here’s some ideas and discussion for you; a substantial percentage of the people your country executes are innocent. The system is biased against poor people and people of color, and yet folks would rather “fix” the methods of execution than fix the means by which justice is supposedly administered. Also, when you use

Taking it as a given that the death penalty is not going away anytime soon...

I almost feel bad about it, but tbh 15-year-old me would hear about how my abusive step-father died and be happy. He had a stroke in his late 40s from the drinking that partially paralyzed the right side of his body and left him with the mental age of a 13-year-old and a convenient amnesia of the preceding ten years,

Sounds about right minus the procreating part. 15 year old stuck between a punk and a goth me would be ever-so-mortified if Henry Rollins saw me driving a Volvo (gasp) stationwagon. I’d be happy to see that all of my tatoo and piercing dreams came true.

My 15-year-old self would realize what my current job entails, and immediately call my parents.

I think mine would at least be relieved that I’ve had all the sex. I hadn’t even kissed someone back then.

It is ok now. I had to go all around the neighborhood shops, like say, dry cleaaner’s, going “Hi, did I drop anything off here? Cause I was in a coma and forgot”, and people don’t think you literally mean coma and just laugh.

I love reading about this stuff and always love this feature but I similarly feel really out of place here—I wear very little makeup when I do wear it (which is rare) and I more or less always feel like the befores look better than the afters, in large part because of the bare skin.

I love the bare skin look. In fact, I think many of the befores look better than the afters. I do like thick mascara and bright or dark lipstick but I hate lip liner (evil) and I hate rouge and too much eye makeup. I still use mainly just double coat mascara and that's it and I'm gonna be fifty next year. I have never

Yeah, I liked the "before" much more.

This is the perfect makeover.
