Sure, your anecdata totally override the actual evidence collected on this topic.

Nice. So we should maybe just ditch that whole idea of equality of opportunity? Just get over it? Life's not fair? Did you want to reinstate slavery too?

In principle that's fine and I agree, but breastfeeding/baby care is a short period of time (maybe a year out of a 40+ year career) and many women would like to be able to return to using their skills and contributing to the economy during the other 39+ years.

Most people who are offended by things you say aren't going to tell you. I'd say if you have had two occasions where someone was clearly offended by something you said and told you so, there have probably been at least ten to twenty other occasions when they just took it and went home angry.

"Have you ever... had them counter with 'No, where are you REALLY from?'

"The problem is that white-presenting people in America get this question almost 0% of the time in the first 5 minutes of a conversation"

"I definitely understand that it can be othering, but sometimes it's just polite conversation."

Randomly asking an Asian dude on the train if he is Japanese is *exactly analogous* to walking up to a stranger in a restaurant and asking if they are Ghanaian.

I don't myself ask people 'where they are from' but I am curious about this assumption that white people are not asked this question. I'm white and I am constantly asked where I am from. (Including the followup of 'where are your parents from' when I say NY.)

Plain film Xrays are pretty harmless in single doses but it says they used a CT scanner? Whatever for? The images look like regular Xray images.

Air bubble. Empty space is radiolucent. Poo is somewhat more radiopaque.

I don't think they read the actual studies most of the time. They seem to read another news outlet's summary and then riff off of that.

My 4yo has the morning breath too but I can't help but think it is something dietary. Her breath smelled sweet and delicious all the time as long as she was on breast milk, then when I weaned her to cow's milk at two all of a sudden she had stank breath in the AM, and has ever since. :( She doesn't even drink much

Is it possible that prettier women were able to attract a fundamentally less-douchey caliber of husband? Versus the interpretation that men actually change their level of douchebaggery based on their wives' looks? I don't see how this study design could differentiate between those possibilities.

Ben Barres (famous neuroscientist and FTM trans person) wrote that hormone treatments dried up his crying trigger. Fascinating!

On the one hand I totally agree with your assessment about grudge-holding. I think it's ridiculous and I starred you for your common-sense approach (which I share btw).

OK but your family is an outlier. Statistically, Indians are less likely than any other ethnic group to outmarry. From the Wiki on interracial marriage:

Same here. My husband was 36 and 38 for our kids (I was 31 and 33) and he's definitely the one chasing them around the park. Of course he's not the one getting up with the little one at 3am every day so that could have something to do with it. >:(

Awesome post. I said much the same on the Slate site (but without all the graphs which are really key to the impact) but it got buried.

That said, there is an increased risk for autism (and a large number of other partially or completely genetically based disorders) with age of parents - particularly with older fathers, in the case of autism. But it's not a large enough effect that you would be able to notice it in a preschool class. I really
