I think the outrage was over the fact that it looked out of place. It would be like if I’d shown up to defend my dissertation in a club dress. I was too pregnant for my good suit so I wore a work dress I could wear to an interview but it didn’t look out of place. That said, I’ve seen many “professional” and “academic”…
