As a man, this kind of argument is super weird to me, and I’ve really been baffled by the way men are reacting to this story.

That is not even remotely true. There was a litany of refusals, and at one point Ansari even acknowledged her clear discomfort. Observe:
Right? It’s amazing how men are allegedly SO terrified of false rape accusations - but somehow they defend ignoring it when a woman says “I don’t want to feel forced because then I’ll hate you, and I’d rather not hate you.” They defend a man repeatedly moving her hand to his dick after she keeps moving it away. Or…
It’s amazing how, when the conversation is about a progressive dude, suddenly “no means no” becomes
I think that reinforces the point though — the conversation here should be a lot more nuanced and handled more deftly. I’m in my 30s now and I know how to say no, but pretty much throughout my 20s as I explored my sexuality I consistently ran into situations that I didn’t know how to handle. There’s a lot of pressure…
There is an extreme lack of Person of Interest and Legion here.
I haven’t met anybody in meatspace that I know of, but I did get an acknowledgement in Charlie Jane’s All The Birds In The Sky. I can only hope that future generations will wonder who this “lightninglouie” was, and attempt to bring him back to life using technology.
Once Charlie and Annalee left and io9 was folded into Gizmodo, it really signaled the end of the Golden Age. Even on ODeck there was a marked shift to a new generation of commenters.
Looking back through the comment thread from Annalee’s post in 2013 is amazing. It’s like the “In Memoriam” roll at the Oscars. Except that I think most of those people are not dead.
I wonder what the overlap is between comic fans who wonder why race and representation are important and those who rage when their favorite character is changed to a woman or different race?
Taraji P. Henson is a great woman. She was for the first 2/3 seasons of Person of Interest the hands down best character in the series. I cried when Joss Carter was killed. Taraji and all the women in Person of Interest played all the best and most interesting characters, Sorry Reese, Finch, and Fusco.
That’s Barbarella, the trippiest, weirdest, most futuristic softcore porn you’ll ever watch.
Is there a reason this book became so popular? It’s not good. It’s not good at all.
Lalo Schifrin is in a league on his own. He composed hits even in his sleep. To not love his work is a kind of a mission impossible = )
If I remember the books correctly, most of Stephenson’s work could be filmed for about a million dollars for the first hour and fifteen minutes. Then you’d need about 200 million for the endings.
THANK YOU. I feel like dudes keep trying to say that because she’s beautiful, that somehow detracts from her ability to be a feminist icon. But you hit the nail on the head...at no point in the film did she feel objectified, like she was a sex object. Just because she’s beautiful doesn’t mean she was sexualized.…
But the contrast to your point about him doing films with non-sexualized women leads/heroes is, why do we need to de-sex a woman hero for it to be a feminist portayal? Of course, it’s great for the character to have agency and for the sex with a male character to not be exploitative or for the purpose of cheap…
Cameron has long been an advocate of strong female characters, featuring them prominently in his blockbusters: Sarah Connor, Ripley (Aliens), Rose (Titanic), Neytiri (Avatar)
Please note that Sarah Connor has been played by such ugmos as Emilia Clarke, Linda Hamilton, and Lena Hedley. Truly, all are hideous beasts. 🙄
