I actually think the traction limitation is pretty fun in the GTI on a day to day basis. Keeps things a bit more interesting and intriguing to get the most out of it without just lighting the tires completely up.
Yeah, the price difference on sticker is big enough, but around here the dealers sell the R at sticker, at best - meanwhile steep discounts on the GTI’s. The difference, after tax was 10k+.
Their income depends on some transportation for sure. But when their product helps facilitate people traveling less, the need for more roads, especially larger roads goes down - likely net reductions across the board there. Less money needed to be spend on roads, never mind the cost to travel - real or subsidized.…
It should be noted that most of the top 4 aren’t really noted for making their money from roads, especially not directly- Gates, Zuckerberg, Warren. If anything Gates and Zuckerberg are allowing people to drive less to work and socialize and stand to gain more by people driving less. You could argue that Bezos makes a…
My general proposal...
You are getting closer to realizing my point. Yes, it’s a network. Yes, that sticks property is worth less because it’s not as convenient - they also likely pay far less taxes on the property. Yet they likely have far more road cost associated with that property than someone in a city, for example. So, yes it’s…
I am not missing the point on it. You can make it progressive of a tax as you want on an income basis and it won’t be progressive at all -
It’s because the US is divided politically for most things and nearly any issue is politicized. Thus many environmental issues are political and thus don’t get anywhere.
Oh no, it’s not new - but some of these folks just learned two sentences, so they are proud to use both.
I pay for the road leading to my house via taxes, some of which are use based - but arguably not enough. It’s not an argument about if we should have roads, it’s how to pay for them.
The rich/poor argument might be the only reasonable way to explain why roads might be good to be equally taxed. However, it doesn’t work and is short sighted, IMO.
But that’s like the folks that build the road infrastructure.
Roads don’t benefit everyone equally. It’s not even close to short sighted. Use tax makes perfect sense given the variables. Also, as pointed out, a use tax can be structured to incentivize efficiency, less driving, etc.
Two things -
Because a lot of folks don’t even have cars. Or in my case, I don’t want to pay for infrastructure for those who drive 50k miles a year in heavy and/or giant vehicles when I only drive a few thousand in my car?
It will exert the same pressure, given the inflation pressure is the same. The patch would likely be a different shape.
How many should they kill before it’s a problem in your opinion?
Leaving the trailer is pretty nice, for sure. But if you don’t feel like doing that or it’s not practical to do so, then this makes sense. As for a trail, backing yourself out a tough spot becomes a hell of a lot more challenging.
Hopefully the fee means it’s at least officially documented, even if the title is normal. Always check the VIN, I suppose...
