The blackhawks tend to let older, solid players walk, while the rangers tend to give them long term deals. The Blackhawks have been able to reload every couple years because of this, though I imagine they might see the same thing happen in a few years if toews, kane, and hossa aren’t worth their money.

I feel like it should work like malpractice insurance that doctors are usually required to have. Obviously in many of the newsworthy situations, they should also be criminally prosecuted, but in minor cases that cause fairly significant damage, this could cause some change to the power dynamic.

He hasn’t changed for the most part. He’s always been slow, but rule changes and shiftier forwards have really exposed guys like him, Chara, and even Kronwall to an extent. Imagine how bad Hal Gill would be in todays league.
