He puts his shoulder into the upper chest (maybe a little bit of chin because his head was down) of Josi. Elbow comes up after Josi is already falling back because of momentum. If I was the ref I might call him for a minor charging penalty.

No he wouldn’t have gone to the corner boards with Hedman already there and Nashville already having possession. He needs to cover the high guy and be available for an outlet pass if hedman caused a turnover. Curling up is the right move.

I only just heard of the earlier hit, but still there are ways to square up with another player that send a better point and don’t end up with one of your smaller players taking some punches on the ice. You can fight off a faceoff/conversation in passing or you can react like todd bertuzzi, alex burrows, etc.

As far as swiping at the phone, it could’ve been a lot worse. Some goalies that let in a sudden death goal might have done much, much worse.

I think they’re square, but I think it was stupid of ellis. Let a bigger guy line up with him off a faceoff and avoid the extra penalty they got (or should’ve got I didn’t watch the game).

Exactly why taking a dumb interference/instigator/etc. penalty would be a dumb thing to do. You can hit all you want until the end of the game as long as you hit someone with the puck with your shoulder into an area that is not their knees, head, or back.

If you look at it like that, you have to assume ellis doesn’t know how to stop or has zero hockey awareness with the fact that his teammate is definitely getting the puck and having two players on the same team in the same corner is generally bad hockey.

I might be in the minority, but I’d say Ellis deserved what he got. I’m no JT Brown fan or even a bolts fan. No reason to throw even a light check with so little time left in a 3-0 game, let alone while your teammate has the puck.

The league needs more defensemen like him, doughty, weber, hedman, klinberg, subban, and (I hate myself for saying this) keith. Great offensive weapons that are still (or are developing into) solid defensemen.
