Fantastic video. The army did some amazing mechanical explainer videos in the 50s and 60s.
BAC TO THE FUTURE
It’s been engine swapped with a Passat?
“Plugging up the tailpipe, step in time!
Plugging up the tailpipe, step in time!
Never need a reason, never need a rhyme,
Plugging up the tailpipe, step in time!”
Technically he’s correct. Intuitively, most people think that an alternator is going to rob the same amount of power from the engine regardless of how much electricity is being used (the intuitive thought being that the alternator just makes as much power as it can at a given rpm and the excess is just wasted electric…
The engine is more efficient running UP hills as the higher throttle opening allows for less pumping losses. The correct way is heavy throttle going up hills and coasting down (and never touching the brake) even Morgan Freeman knows this
I had the exact same experience, and man, the car felt like it was from about 1998. Sure it drove fine and all, but it was just so meh
If you were a little less ethical, by the time you returned it, you could have had new struts and the rental could have needed new struts.
You should have noticed some differences between the 2007 and the 2016 Impala.
I drove a new Impala as a loaner when my Camaro was getting a seat cover replaced...You’re not missing much. Little nicer, but still a fairly normal sedan. Much better than the Malibu though.

I award that comment a 4.6 out of a 5.0.
The current BMW traction controls are infuriating. During a photo shoot the other day, with a new M2, we could not get the thing to fully relinquish control so that I could do sideways smoking tire shots through slalom cones .....
Logical conclusion: All crowd hungry Mustangs are towing improperly loaded invisable trailers.
I myself would have whacked that spring good and hard a bunch of times with a big spanner or somesuch before even thinking of touching it. Ugh! Of course, getting some of my fingers mangled by a snapping, partially crushed coil spring would bring in a hell of a lot of youtube clickzz, so maybe not win-win, but at…
He’s a funny guy but not too smart indeed. That spring is loaded and not just a little bit. If that would unload in his hand he’d have to go shopping for a new hand....
I thought the same thing, but he did say he was hiding behind a large piece of steel.
I was thinking along those lines when it occurred to me that it would probably throw the hammer/other tool back at me.
