Ferrari V12 in a classic Mustang? That sounds right on many levels to me.

My old Mustang has a similar idle relearning function - once it's warmed up let it idle for one minute with the a/c off and then one minute with the a/c on and it as smooth as butter.

Yeah, I'd heard about the equine pollution problems cities had before the automobile came to the rescue. People forget about stuff like that when they yearn for simpler times of olde.

OK - that puts it in to some perspective. So $850 was not a tremendous sticker shock to people used to dealing with horses.

I'm curious about the economics of transportation at the dawn of the automotive age:

This post is relevant to my interests.

So if you're ever in a situation where you have to commandeer a car you won't look like an idiot and get made fun of on Jalopnik.

I second that.

A mentioned more than a few times: The Blues Brothers.

Does it count if you have to hose the track down first?

I'd call this a temporary fix until you can do something more permanent.

All gas engines run rich at wide open throttle, whether carb'ed, throttle body, port or direct injected - that's normal. The extra fuel helps control the combustion temps and prevent pinging as well as make sure there's fuel available to burn with every molecule of oxygen.

Oh yeah, no doubt. I found an SS that looked pretty good for something crazy like $3K that had a noisy lifter. The WS6 was just at the top my search for "ls1" & <$10000 and the first one that fulfilled my requirements of 6-speed, preferably a WS6 Trans Am with T-Tops. Even with no budget for upgrades, it would run

What are you, like, the anti-Burt Reynolds? T-tops are mandatory.

OK, I've given this a little more thought. Instead of an Explorer axle for the Civic, look for a mid-80's to early 2000's Mustang or Camaro driveline - 4 & 6 cylinder wrecks are all over the pull-a-part yards and you can get a 5 speed, driveshaft and axle all in one go for next to nothing.
