The time that I was dating three different women in college, one lived five hours away, one actually went to my school, and one was a 32 year old local woman. Once a month I would make the five hour drive to see the one, and then the two in town got me on alternating nights. It was easier to manage in college because

Yes the poor, downtrodden men of NASCAR, who were born to work but forced to take seven figure paychecks and drive racecars, should unionize.

Don’t forget the Continental. They are ridiculously comfortable, especially with the 300,000 way power seats, and all of the powertrain options have something between “good” and “very good” power.

2nd and 3rd gears: I tried telling my dad to sell his pickup right now. It’s a 2011 crew cab F150 lariat with only 60k miles and it will never be worth more than it is right now. He has other cars, but uses the pickup a couple of times per month to haul something...

I used to have this smug sense of self satisfaction

That’s exactly where my mind went, the C7 Zo6. Ask anybody who knows a lick about cars if they would imagine a GT350 would have heat soak issues and they’d say, “no”.
One would almost expect a Mustang GT to have cooling issues on a track, because it’s a road car with a big motor. GT350 is synonymous with track use,

What he’s seeking does not exist, but he needs a Lexus or a Lexus.

Another story of his that I loved was regarding the window trim on the Impala. The product manager had black plastic window surrounds and Lutz asked him about doing chrome or brushed metal. The product manager said that if he did that, the program may go over budget and he would fail that metric. Lutz said something

Lol nah man. It’s the democrats who have run the city since the mid 20th century. And based on that response, you would never guess my race in 1,000,000 years... okay there are only so many guesses so you would eventually get it, but the fact that you went straight to “black people” tells me that there is some very

We’ve covered this in the comments of another post, but here it goes:
Pickups sell in droves. Numbers that make other segments blush. You probably only notice the pickups you don’t like because of some sense of self satisfaction. There are tens of millions of pickups on the road that are not at all how you describe,

100% agree.
Bob Lutz wrote extensively about this concept in his book, Car Guys Vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business. The GM marketing people would focus group designs given to them by the studio. Those designs were graded on a 1-10 scale based on how the focus group responded. Lutz wasn’t

That anybody defends Chicago is absolutely mind boggling. It’s not the biggest soup sandwich of poorly run cities, but it is one of the most segregated in the country and has an astonishing rate of violent crime. And there’s one group to blame.

I actually live in Omaha, and that’s kind of how we like it. Our numbers are fine, so that’s how it remains.

Interesting points. But your fifth paragraph really detracts from your entire point. Those things exist in far, far smaller numbers than whatever news you’re reading & watching would have you believe. It’s like reading twitter (which “news” regularly cites) and taking that to be the general state of US politics and

There’s no cure for being antisocial. Not that it necessarily needs curing... different strokes for different folks and whatnot.

Truth. Nothing in our country’s history has been more detrimental to the middle class.

That’s not honest. Part of maintaining a healthy immune system involves exposure to germs.

Quite possible. But Shilling himself said it, “It’s still going to take some time to feel comfortable with the old ways.”
And I’ve met many people who feel the same. It’s like Stockholm Syndrome or something, some people have just given in to what they identify as “normal” and actual normal doesn’t feel correct to

I read that article too, but have to disagree. Two cars ago, I owned a 2014 Honda Accord. It was the absolute cheapest Accord one could buy in 2014, and it’s equipment level was great, despite a sticker price of just a hair over $24,000. I haven’t been in every car, but in my experience “base” models are great.

That makes sense, and you hit the nail on the head with “OCD”. What you have is a disorder, and I’m wondering if perhaps there is a new disorder that is affecting new people.

2nd gear: You hit on something here that I’ve been think a lot about lately. There are people who, beyond a reasonable level, are petrified of being around people. There’s a pretty wide variance, sometimes depending on where one lives, of what is “reasonable” but I am wondering how long it will be until the
