I don’t think she wins any arguments about the sentence. The majority of whistleblowers are civilians. Did her attorney not explain to her that military personnel, having sworn an oath of loyalty upon induction, are generally held to higher standards in cases like these? She seems to genuinely not know that military

Thanks for clarifying. That being said, I wonder if this list does a decent job of really relaying the scope of transphobia. I do wonder how many of them are classified as probable or confirmed bias crimes. Then again, given how marginalized trans people are, I’d be predisposed to think that there is almost always

Except I didn’t. I pointed out that law enforcement seemed to almost want to get in front of it by pointing out that it was not a bias crime because the victim’s trans status had nothing to do with crime - it was a revenge killing for the victim’s theft from the killer. My point was that I wasn’t sure whether her

I think you may have missed my point. The narrative was that while she was a murdered trans person, she was not murdered for being trans. Her killer might be a sociopath, but there didn’t seem to be evidence he was transphobic. That is why I wonder whether this list only reflects people who died because of their trans

Is this all murders of trans peope regardless of motive or just those classified as bias crimes? There was a trans woman murdered not far from where I live this year, and our local police went to what (in my mind) were great lengths to emphasize that her murder was not a “bias crime” - she had a roommate who seemed to

Except they’re not on “the same side.” I just demonstrated that if the 3rd parties had not been in the race, there is a substantial chance that Clinton would have taken a crucial swing state and very well could be the President-elect right now. Plenty of people on this site demonstrated, qualitatively, that either not

Hillary trusted the polls (a fatal mistake, obviously). I think her campaign was convinced that she was comfortable enough that neither Stein nor Johnson posed any meaningful threat. Obviously, they were wrong. The polls were dramatically closer than anybody expected, and when that happens, 3rd parties come into play

Except in many of the battlegrounds states, the margins between Clinton and Trump were razor-thin. Oh, let’s look at Pennsylvania:

Speaking only for myself, the largest protest near me was organized by a group that openly endorsed Jill Stein. That’s hypocrisy. I don’t doubt that there were Hillary supporters in the crowd, but the whole thing felt extremely badly done to me.

There was a massive protest near me. When I check it on Facebook, it turned out it was organized by a coalition of namely anarchist and/or socialist groups. When I checked them out further, I saw that most of them either endorsed Jill Stein (or one of the even more fringe Socialist candidates) or encouraged abstaining

I sympathize with immigrants whi struggle with ESL, because, honestly, Americans do not realize that English is actually quite a hard language to learn. If you grew up with it, you don’t appreciate that! Your mother is ahead of the curve in that, if she knows Portuguese, she at least knows the Latin alphabet already -

I remember that scene in Outsourced where they’re trying to teach Indians to speak with with a Chicago accent. That scene was comedic, but I get the feeling it’s actually going to start playing out IRL now.

I volunteer teaching ESL to people who, for whatever reason, need the instruction (since I grew up bilingual). On Wednesday, there are dozens of calls and emails from people seeking to improve their English. A lot of people think that they will be targeted less, or harassed less, if their English is better. Everybody

Except you’re the one who failed to read this thread, where I clearly disclosed my race. Again, please stop embarrassing your poor race. Haven’t black Americans suffered enough already this week?

Um, I stated upthread that I’m Native American.

I’d then recommend refusing to pay your taxes, since the IRS is part of the executive branch, and since he’s not your President, he has no authority to actually make you pay. I’d then recommend explaining this to the IRS agents who will contact you. I’d further recommend taping this conversation and posting it here,

Bit I didn’t compare them. I pointed out that even when Obama did things I considered horrific, I never tried to say he wasn’t my President, or that he didn’t represent me - he did. You don’t get to disclaim him because you disagree with him, or think he’s awful.

I’m not sure Bernie should be making pronouncements right now. The Pew data coming in shows that Trump won a majority of young white people - who went mostly for Bernie in the primaries. That means that a sizable chunk of Sanders’ supporters jumped party.

I don’t think Trump is much invested in NOM or groups like them. He was the only Republican who said that trans people should just use the bathroom they want (I think the sole time I agreed with him on anything). But NOM will certainly have Pence’s ear - and that is scary.

Except rationalism isn’t a white thing - it’s a human thing. Rationalism is the demand that people, you know, THINK and consider FACTS when forming opinions and ideas. POC are as pefectly capable of rationalism as anybody else. Rationalism does not demand that POC ignore legitimate grievances against us or that we not
