Totally agree on TFA vs. ROTJ. I still think Phantom Menace is worse than Clones, but I see the argument.

Of all the arguments against TFA, I think I hate the “Mary Sue” argument the most. I mean, by that standard, Luke is a Mary Sue as well. Rey at least grew up on her own and had to fend for herself and you got to see her have some, you know, melee fighting skills (staff) prior to her fight with Kylo Ren.
Why would TFA be payoff? It’s the first of a new three movie series. If it were payoff laden, what would they do for the next two?
I rewatched them all (despecialized and anti-cheese and in Machete Order, so maybe i had a different experience) and this is the ranking i’d give them:
1. The Force Awakens - It just was so much damned fun!
2. The Empire Strikes Back - From the first scene it was leagues ahead of A New Hope
3. The Return of the Jedi - It…

id argue that the utter failure of the Prequels is what forced TFA to play it so safe. It didnt just have to set up the new story line, but erase the memory of the last three movies which damn near ruined the series in the public eye. and in this it was highly sucessful, far from perfect but more than good enough to…
How does it feel to go through life with no joy?
Jedi is payoff, and you are criticizing TFA because it is the FIRST movie in a new trilogy? OK...
Jedi is only payoff. Besides the opening with Jabba, the rest of the movie is flat and ridiculous. The Death Star fight was wholly boring and meaningless, and the final “duel” was not a duel at all. I watched it just the…
Que the sexist assholes who still think Rey is a Mary Sue despite the fact that Luke pretty much destroyed the Death Star with minimal experience aside form piloting a T-16 which has similar controls to an X-Wing.
Han is rocking one hell of a boner in that first screenshot.
Can’t disagree with the list. George Lucas wrote and directed only one great Star Wars movie, and it was IV.
Ohhh, sick burn.
