You know this also counts as shaming, right? Ok, cool, carry on...

“Down to fuck.” You’re welcome, Mom. :p

Um... in graduate school, you generally get paid to “attend,” because you are also actually working, doing things like teaching classes or discussion sections, doing work for your advisors, etc. It’s not really a “free ride,” it’s more like “signing up to get really under-paid for your level of accomplishments in

(None of these are really wild horses so much as feral horses. They’re descended from domesticated animals, like roaming bands of cats. True wild horses—animals never domesticated by humans—are extinct except for the endangered Przewalski’s horse, which looks like a chubby donkey and lives in Mongolia.)

Seriously!

Helps a ton, thanks! And thanks for your work/studies! As someone who just finished a Ph.D. program, I know how brutal it can be, but I think it’s sooooooo important to have more science-based evidence to help us improve our meat production methods to make them more humane. Three cheers from over here!

How do we identify meat that is good to eat from an ethical/scientific standpoint? I know I can go to my local farm and buy their heritage breed, grass-fed, fancy-pants meet at $1,000/lb., but is there anything I can do to be an ethical consumer in the supermarket?

I dunno, we had some big surprises with people who didn’t give us gifts. For example, my half-brothers and one of the groomsmen. We certainly didn’t “confront” them or anything, but we were a little hurt. A few friends just gave a card, that was nice. Several gave some small gifts, which were also great. It did feel

I had a similar experience. My husband did eventually write his notes, but ALL wedding-related complaints were always directed to ME. The one thing I escaped was my sister-in-law’s mother-in-law being pissed off about the seating arrangement - that drama got foisted on my mother-in-law, for inexplicable reasons.

I’m really sorry you had that experience, that sounds incredibly unpleasant and really hard to deal with :( I’m glad you’ve been able to find some enjoyment in food in your later life. Food can be great! But sometimes people can be pretty challenging.

I love the butter-cake story!! That sounds delicious!!!!

you do know about “working papers,” right?

He kinda looks like he’s going to puke. After hearing #2 and #3, I can hardly blame him!

I dunno. When I was in high school, a friend and I thought it would be great fun to dress up in super bizarre outfits and hang out in the mall just to see people’s reactions. Spiked our (longgg) hair with egg whites, dyed it crazy colors, wore some insanely-colored mismatched knee socks... nothing sexual whatsoever,

Um, when I had one done, it felt incredibly invasive and embarrassing and they wouldn’t even let my husband into the room with me “for privacy.” So... good for you for not having a bad experience, I guess? I would have ALL OF THE PROBLEMS doing this in front of people.

Me too - I’ve decided that “non-cancerous” is a very fashionable look on me ;)

If you don’t mind looking a tad like Crocodile Dundee, try a Tilley hat! E.g.,

AWESOME ADVICE. Agree on all fronts. May I also add - carry-on deodorant, please!
