I hate that photo. So much.

I just have an insane amount of respect for these women coming forward with their stories in such a public way. Unfortunately public shaming seems to be the only way forward in a lot of cases.

They arrested and convicted geologists of manslaughter for not predicting a fucking earthquake! Fortunately it was overturned. My husband, whose research involves fault zones, considered doing a sabbatical in Italy — I was so down to hang out there for a year! — but he was very turned off after that fiasco.

Also, within the past five years, 6 Italian scientists were convicted of manslaughter for failing to warn people about the dangers of earthquakes. So, I'd take Italian convictions with a grain of salt...

I have not forgotten Meredith, but the way her parents were so certain of Knox’s guilt — and are to this day — in spite of a total lack of believable motive and evidence really bothers me.

I’ve read so much about this case and simply DO NOT UNDERSTAND how so many people still think she’s guilty. Maybe it’s because I lived in Italy and can totally imagine how convoluted the entire justice system is. Italy has had like 60 governments since WWII. Only one Italian government has lasted a full five-year term

I don’t even know 19 people.

But why are two five year olds flying alone on international flights?

I wish. If he’s rich enough and well-connected enough, he’ll still get everything he wants in life and his conviction will be chalked up to “youthful indiscretion”.

Speaking as a survivor I want to say how empowering it can be to speak out. But it is also risky (this invites assholes to question or harass you) and it doesn’t come without sacrificing a part of your public identity; some people will always see you and think of you as a victim and not a complex individual with

Between Labrie, Turner and other “promising” young men who are able to get away with reduced sentences, I wonder why no one seems to care about the promising young women whose lives may be irrevocably altered by the actions of these assholes.

She is so fucking brave. I applaud women every time they talk about their experiences unapologetically but it hurts my heart that she is so young.

I gasped. I forget that 15 is still a child. I’m trying to picture a girl TWO YEARS YOUNGER than this girl, being grilled on the stand by the defense.

She is so fucking badass and we should all celebrate her. I went to an asshole prep school and knew douchebags from douchebag families exactly like this piece of shit.

This girl is so amazing. At 15 I would have barely been able to function after going through an assault let alone push forward bravely to prosecute that scumbag. Hell at middle age I doubt I would do so much good from so much bad.

Pretty much anyone who’s ever been sexually assaulted or done anti-sexual violence prevention work is deemed “biased” in sexual assault cases, and dismissed from the jury pool due to their supposed inability to be “impartial”. They have to call 2-3x as many people for the jury pool on a rape case compared to normal. I

Even in the reverse, it sounds like they had fantastic sex or something. I’d have gone with “Historic Night; Manuel, Phelps Win Gold!!!” Yeesh.

Olympics: Simone Manuel shares historic night with some white guy.

Well obviously I have to kill Chris Brown for the good of mankind. So I guess that means I have to marry Kanye and fuck John Mayer, as disgusting as that last one is. He is so clammy. Ew. But I couldn’t marry him in a sexless marriage cause he might wanna sing, and that is even more repulsive.

Palle was so fun! I used to go into his office hours and talk about baseball. I wonder if we were in class together at the same time! I’m not sure if I remember those campus figures you point out, although Sidney Morganbesser was quite the oddball. I didn’t major in philosophy, but I took a bunch of classes and knew a
