Just because an artist uploads their art to social media and wants people to see it doesn’t mean that they want it to be used to train algorithms that may be able to steal their jobs. There have been numerous examples of this happening, but people aren’t able to stop it - the AI even removes watermarks. And that’s

People are like “don’t make fun of these people just because they’re billionaires, you don’t know what they did to make their money” and sure, I don’t, but 1) you don’t get billions of dollars behaving ethically and 2) you don’t remain having billions of dollars without ignoring the people who need the money and

I see what you’re saying and the newer font definitely doesn’t have as much character as the old one or what was used in Paper Mario, but I also don’t think it looks as bad.

Artists don’t “steal” in the same way as AI. Artists are creative entities and them making the choice to sample someone else or to just be inspired by the works of another artist are their creative choices (and we have laws about what can and can’t be used in this way). AIs are not creative, you’re just throwing real

It’s certainly possible, though that would only be a small problem alleviated.

Part of this is them testing the waters and it needs to be made clear that the waters are unfriendly.

I’m almost certain that what happened is that an exec at Marvel said “AI art is trendy and super cheap, let’s use that in something” and then the justifications about Secret Invasion involving spies and shapeshifters and questions about what is real were shoehorned in afterwards. The exec may not have even known how

Another side of the problem is that we don’t know how the AI in question was trained - usually they take in a lot of human-created art in order to be able to function at all and most of that is dubiously obtained. So while I get what you’re saying that “it’s ok because they wanted that AI look, it’s silly to pay

Right - if the creator looks at it and says “I think that I can creatively and effectively adapt this thing to a new medium”, that’s one thing, but so often these decisions are being led by business executives that just decide to do it based on making money and then they try and find someone who will do it for them.

Honestly I really liked FFXV - it had a lot of action-y stuff in it, but for whatever reason four guys in a car felt more at home than a Game of Thrones ripoff. The combat in that also felt like more of a natural evolution of the FF style, but XVI takes that a step further.

Mentally I keep comparing the sub to the crafts used to go to the moon - small, only having what is absolutely necessary, and being put in situations where, should something go wrong, you will almost certainly die because there aren’t backup systems or anyone else capable of rescuing you.

Every new announcement about 16 was met with reactions like “this doesn’t really feel like Final Fantasy to me” and “I’ve been a big fan of the series but I don’t know about this one” and people just felt the need to say like “come on, every Final Fantasy game changes, that’s how it’s always been, don’t be afraid of

It I absolutely must, sure, but for that to be a selling point of the game? No way.

There are still turns though, the mechanics can change and it doesn’t mean there aren’t turns.

The original DKC was a lot of fun in terms of gameplay but it definitely had room to grow and the sequels took advantage of that.

Absolutely, same here.

I wonder if Culex’s appearance is intact (complete with FF4 music).

Ehh, I don’t know. I get what you mean in terms of the OG Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters and the previous reskins of those games, where there was a dissonance between the art of the game and the font, but I think it looks fine here with the overall graphics improvement.

Super Mario RPG and the Donkey Kong Country games were some of the best looking but poorly-aged SNES games in terms of art style since they were basically just REALLY EARLY 3D. They looked great on the SNES but like pretty much everything on the PS1, they need a a little help to let them get back to what we remember

especially if you’ve ever dreamt of sucker-punching a Chocobo in the stomach
