The “approved” comment system was introduced as a result of, as I recall, porn and violent images being spammed to Gizmodo and other GMG sites (though bots/spam played a big part too, just less immediately). They wanted a way to still allow everyone to comment, but to have a barrier between the casual reader and

64 is really hard for me. It was really good... in 1996. It was certainly a revolution, setting the standard for 3D platformers that continues to this day. But objectively, it’s hard for me to put it above Odyssey. Odyssey takes SO MUCH of what made 64 great and improves on almost all of it. Obviously we couldn’t have

I don’t know what you’re talking about, Zelda chests have had like “5 rupees” or “10 bombs” forever. There was never a guarantee that you were going to get something good. And most weapons weren’t in chests in the first place.

Also, as much as I love the Switch and understand that the Wii U Gamepad was kind of a weird idea, I love the second screen option that the Wii U Zeldas (and DS/3DS for that matter) had. Always having the map available and quick-changing for items was really convenient.

I can understand not putting New Super Mario Bros at the top, but almost at the very bottom? Under even Super Mario Land? Absurd.

I’ve been reading Lifehacker pretty much daily for (holy shit) 15 years. I don’t know how many Editors in Chief I’ve been through. I remember the days when the site was practically built on sugru, bunder clips, and Autohotkey. I still follow a lot of ex-Lifehacker writers on other platforms because I was so darn

Super hyped about this, I love the movie and the books. My biggest complaint about the movie (which I saw before I read the books) is that it has to take out a LOT of stuff from the books, especially the characters’ later development (especially Scott’s, who sucks so much and really needs it), so this adaptation will

Oh those, yeah I totally forgot about those. I got them all when I was a kid but I don’t know if I’d have the patience to do all of that now.

Honestly the Wii U HD version is the ideal version to me - the map is in its original orientation, it doesn’t have the sword waggle, and it does have the aiming motion controls. Really surprised we haven’t gotten it (and Wind Waker HD) on the Switch yet.

You know, I don’t know how many times I’ve played through Ocarina of Time (plus the other 3D Zelda games, most of which use the same basic combat system) and I never thought about it that way. You’re completely right though; compare an encounter in A Link to the Past with Ocarina of Time - in the former, you run into

The Wii version of Twilight Princess wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. It was really gimmicky using the Wii Remote to use the sword (especially going back after Skyward Sword did it better), but the motion controls worked really well for the bow/clawshots. The worst thing to me for the Wii version was that

Them not including the handheld entries is a huge miss, especially since those are the only 2D Zelda games since A Link to the Past. When I hear “all the mainline Zeldas” I think “ok so you’re not including the CDi games, Link’s Crossbow Training, or the Tingle game”.There are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks too,

Yeah I’m sure there’s a big “it depends” on this. If the property management company lets the property managers have this kind of power, it can be great (possibly even better than an actual landlord because, as you said, it’s not their money). But there’s no guarantee that they will.

Any time I come across a recipe online that I’m interested in trying, my first step is entirely rewriting it in the steps I will need. If one of the ingredients is (for example) “1 cup diced onions”, I replace that with “1 onion” and add a step for “dice onion”. And they probably didn’t factor that into the time

Remember, your landlord is a person

Getting new weapons was just never the focus of the game, I feel like a lot of people wanted it to be a bigger part and then complained when they’d break, but they were just another resource in the game to be used up.

I get that perspective, but I personally disagree. They put in the Master Sword as the one non-breakable weapon and even that I feel was ultimately unnecessary.

Ironically, that was part of the reason I never beat FF8, in JRPGs I love being able to return to the earlier parts of the game and feel like a god but that system made everything a slog.

There are more shooters I haven’t played than I have, so maybe what I described isn’t true of all or most of them.

I haven’t played the game since its release in 2010 so it’s entirely possible I’m imagining a sequence that didn’t actually happen. I thought there was a situation where Samus was like “I need to use this item so I’ll intentionally put myself in a situation where I have to use it or I’ll die so that I’ll be authorized
