The Mail also outed a transwoman who subsequently killed herself, exploited the suicide of a teen to make shitty points about emo music, routinely publish hyperbolic and false articles about immigration and Britain's Muslim population intended to stir up hatred etc. etc. etc.

Sawdust is actually great for a B-sides/outtakes compilation - 'All The Pretty Faces' and 'Tranquillize' are some of the band's bets songs. But yeah, Sam's Town is fantastic.

I thought 'Crossfire' was okay, it was the kinda U2-meets-Springsteen thing that worked on Sam's Town.

Well, Sanders is fond of the drone warfare program, so he's not exactly got the moral high ground when it comes to murdering innocents…

It was a terrible day when I found out that Tom Leykis was a real person and not just a James Adomian character.

Aside from the horrific connotations, that's a really unwieldy, awkwardly phrased slogan.

Mark Kermode was actually pretty positive about it, which was a surprise.

The picture of a guy with a stupid car?

I guess if you strip away most of the insufferable references and altered the main character's personality and few few other bits, you could have a fairly decent William Gibson/Neal Stephenson-esque post-cyberpunk thing.

Oh, I hadn't seen any other posts on it - I just meant that most of those points on their own would have been enough to make me give it a shot!

That's from a Beck song, isn't it?

Cripes, you've sold that to me several times over! Going to have to hunt down a copy.

How about Steve Cropper? Guitarist with Booker T & the MGs and so, as part of Atlantic's house band, played on (and in some cases co-wrote) some of the best soul tracks of all time

Usula K. LeGuin's Earthsea novels are pretty great, and were written deliberately as a response all the medieval-European fantasy. I's set in an archipelago similar to the pacific islands, with few white characters. All the novels are also pretty short (like around 200 pages).

When Will There Be Good News? is probably my favourite.

Or Amy Winehouse.

Nah, Game of Thrones certainly delights in making us feel bad - the cavalcade of sadists that it loves presenting us with is proof enough.

The plaza and crowd behind Jaime in the mid-shots of him looked very CG

It's very Midsomer Murders, isn't it?
