I was thinking that maybe that whole thing was a set-up, but we've been told that faceless men are supposed to be emotionless killers who don't take an interest in their victims, so giving her an assignment where she has to use deductive reasoning to figure out whether the mark deserved to be killed seemed

"We have a Helena."

As far as I recall, he shrugged it off, which was pretty chill of him.

The first Daario looked more like the book's version of the character (minus the blue hair) but I much prefer Michiel Huisman (he's got a much better presence and he's a better actor in general). I do keep expecting him to pull out a guitar though…

Yeah, this may be the worst show to lose a primary cast member from, as the whole premise means the 8 are irreplacable (without pulling some terrible 'Ah, this person was also born on that day, at that time, and so is part of your cluster now' which would undermine the world-building fro the first series.)

I was worried that all those critics who reviewed the whole series after just seeing the first 2/3 eps were going to prematurely kill the series. Thankfully word of mouth (and the series being amazing) won out in the end it seems.

I loved it from the off, but I was a huge fan of Cloud Atlas as well. It's just wonderful.

Would still totally watch that.

That sounds really interesting, I'll have to check it out!

'Runaround Sue' is mostly better because it rips off the melody from Gary U.S. Bonds' 'Quarter To Three' which is a great song.

In a sense then it's very similar to 'No Children' by The Mountain Goats.

"Everyone knows that the rise of the internet has meant that cultural memory works in a different way than it did even 20 years ago, but what this article presupposes is: maybe it didn't?"

Which in turn was an adaptation of John Gay's 18th century satirical ballad-opera The Begger's Opera.

I've always wondered - since Sting co-wrote the song, was that also a bit of self-deprecation?

I wish Mike Hanford's John Lennon was the real one; he's such a laid-back, decent version.

Ew.

That would be a much better read.

Most early Police songs seem to be about being suicidally depressed and stalking your ex, but they're just fantastically peppy and fun.

I did read an article about misogynist pop songs that argued a similar thing - while it is uncomfortable, it's not specific and the song would stay the same with the pronouns flipped so it's technically more neutral.

Dammit, you've managed to make this completely unnecessary second series sound intriguing. Okay, I'll watch, I guess.
