You know, I keep hearing about "obnoxious Cubs fans" but I honestly have yet to run into one. Every Cubs fan I know (and I know many) is a hopeful pessimist, usually pretty self-deprecating, about their team. I also don't know any who want them to lose just to prolong the drama, another fan trope that often comes up.

Well, two out of three ain't bad!

My daughter dressed as Link for Halloween when she was about ten. It was a great (and easy) costume, but most people thought she was Peter Pan. Pop culture philistines!

You forgot about Hoot. Actually a YA novel & movie so it was easy to miss.

I didn't "think" I liked gin until a few years ago during a weekend with friends who were constantly making gin & tonics. Had to join in, and found to my surprise that I really enjoyed them! Now gin is probably my favorite hard liquor, and I make gin versions of just about every mixed drink. My first gin bloody Mary

My "main event" was a party this past Saturday, held annually by a friend and always a great time. My SO and I went as Joyce and the sheriff from Stranger Things, which was lost on all but two of the party-goers, but we amused ourselves so it was ok!
Halloween was awesome as a kid. I lived in a neighborhood with lots

My cooking highlight this week was crock pot chicken and dumplings, which I hadn't made before and came out pretty good. Right now I am making a box of Annies Mac & Cheese. I pretty much never eat that sort of thing, but I'm feeling a little under the weather today and it sounded good.

I refuse to participate in any Michigan map-related activity that doesn't include the Upper Peninsula so that the other (presumably more important) parts of the state will "fit".

I thought of that injury on Thursday night when I refused to watch the replay of Hoyer's injury in the Bear's game until I was sure it wasn't a "Theisman" situation. Seeing that in '85 scarred me for life.

wrong

It says so in "one" Corinthians!

I would actually agree with that statement, for exactly the opposite reason!

"Faith before works" is quite the mindset. Leads to all kinds of assholery.

it must be nice! No early voting here in Michigan, and unless we manage to kick the Republicans out of control of our state government, that's not going to change. Pisses me off to no end.

Baseball (woohoo Cubs!), beer, and an awesome Halloween party. Just about a perfect Saturday night!

I love the matchup, but I bet Fox is pissed that they got two down-market teams; that's not going to bring in the big ad bucks!

I watched this episode on a post-Cubs-win high (as well as a lingering buzz from the Halloween party earlier in the evening) so my perspective is skewed, but I enjoyed it!

Exactly! The rare sketch that got better as it went on.

The only thing that matters this weekend is that the Cubs are going to the World Series! For this 48-year-old, life-long fan, it's about time.

Somehow I was completely unfamiliar with his work, but I also found the clips funny, and very reminiscent of Jim Gaffigan (I wouldn't be surprised if Meaney was an influence). Edgy and dark seems to dominate these days, but just being goofy and fun still has a place in comedy.
