Does anyone remember one from about 1980 from Mad Magazine, called something like "Super Spectacular Day"? I have a fond but embarrassing memory of my best friend and I serenading our 6th grade teacher with that song.

Bring out your dead!

Aww. You reminded me that I miss that show.

Eating Saturday night steak dinner off of TV trays while watching Emergency!. Good times.

Wow. I might give the medley a positive review if it was being performed by a high school glee club in 1977, but this was on TV?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised though, as someone who grew up on the shitty variety shows and specials of the '70s.

I laid down the law many years ago to my husband and kid that I had NO desire to go out to eat on Mother's Day. In fact, I have usually spent it sans family, hanging out with a friend or traveling somewhere.

My early teenage sleepover experiences usually involved Ouija boards, seances, and that "light as a feather, stiff as a board" thing where you lift somebody up and they seem to weigh nothing. Were my friends creepier than usual?

I will play my 1980 copy of "The Rock Album" in his honor. It's actually not bad!

The header image looks like a still from a commercial for probiotic yogurt.

Adam Baldwin is so homophobic…

My 5th grade teacher read this out loud to the class over a few weeks. I'm not sure how it affected everyone else, but I read it on my own just ahead of the teacher and it was the first book that made me cry. The only thing I remember about the teacher's reading is the drama of wondering how she would handle the line

"Mr. Jaws" was the first thing I thought of at the mention of the break-in record. I am the same age as you, and I still remember it when I hear the songs the clips were taken from.

Indiana Jones, The Mummy movies… I never understood the whole "pit/room full of deadly animals". Don't these people understand intraspecific competition?

Off topic, but thanks AVC for changing that annoying bottom strip pop-up ad so that it disappears on its own rather than having to click on it.
Oh, and that should be "smaller number of commercial breaks" in paragraph two. I'm in the middle of grading a pile of writing assignments, so I couldn't resist commenting.

Thank you to all for the kind words regarding my kitty. I've had cats my whole life, and he was one of my favorites and will be missed. On the plus side, with Prince's passing, today I get two-for-one mourning!

Kind of nuts that Dylan outlived Prince.

I know cause of death is speculative at this point, but people, get your flu shots!

Yesterday my cat died, and now this. Damn.

I thought that when I heard she was playing Rachel, but she has a look of desperation and loss that blunts (ha) her attractiveness. For me, Allison Janney as the cop is the most different from my vision of her from the book (though I'm sure she's great in that role).
