fuck yes.

In addition to this big opening, I think repeat viewing will be unusually strong and prolonged. Will also be interesting to see the full scope of ticket sales outside the US.

I hope this really shatters some Hollywood producers’ preconceptions and we get more awesome movies telling stories about people other than just straight white guys. Especially in superheroes and speculative fiction!

His presence destabilizes Wakanda. Ross says as much.

No he definitely IS trying to destroy Wakanda, at least in its current form. Sure, he’s using its resources and the land itself as a staging area, but he still hates the nation (its society, politics and culture) for what it did to him and his father.

When io9 was heaping praise on Civil War and Thor Ragnarok, actually going to see them, I was a little disappointed. I liked them, but didn’t feel they quite lived up to the hype.

> and I don’t think the latter point has been a (major) worry since the 1970's Sidney Portier craze

I bet the “colonizer” line brought them to tears.

As a white guy let me explain:

It deserves all the money! Diversity in film is great! Now, to patiently wait for Marvel’s predominantly Asian cast film for some me representation! Who do we have? Amadeus Cho? That could be fun!

I saw it last night and had an EXCELLENT time. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. I wanna go see it again! Usually I’m happy with just once for Marvel movies and can wait till they come out for home distribution. But not this one... I need to focus on the scenery and costumes now that I know the plot.

As a white guy who grew up in the very suburban, and white, Philly burbs, I was getting choked up and emotional during many different parts of Black Panther. and that was before realizing that the only two dudes who looked like me were the supporting characters who were just there, along for the ride. It really put it

This movie blew me away. Like more than I thought it would. I knew I’d like it...but damn it’s nearly perfect in every facet, and easily sits HIGH in my list of fave Marvel movies.

Rey is living the hero’s journey, but with all the middle bits (you know, the parts where she changes and grows as a character) removed.

One of the things I thought was really interesting in the new movie was the idea that Snoke talked about: the force will create balance if there is not balance.

>> Amazing that with all of the advanced visual effects and robotics technology we have, this was how they achieved this creature

Recently, a friend of mine and I had a conversation on Twitter about shipping. Specifically, that we share a Star Wars ship: Rey and Kylo Ren

I’m pretty sure The Last Jedi ships Reylo....

we’re facing something relatively new in fandom though that ties into the WRONG/BAD way of thinking - purity culture.

It took me years until I heard why it is called ship and canon.
