I have two screen-less BMWs (1 & 3 series) with all but identical control layouts. One of them for going on 13 years. I have no doubt that I could do any random task in either of them blindfolded. Good luck with that on a touchscreen.

I’m curious how many people actually fiddle with their HVAC controls on a day-to-day basis. With auto climate control, I set it to 70 degrees and then literally never touch the controls again. The fan stays low while the engine warms up and once there’s actually warm coolant going through the heater core it turns the…
Literally anything that you need to adjust while the vehicle is in motion.
I think the rep of the Tacoma is a given here, sure. And, yup, if I could get another of the 2WD manual Xtracab Tacos with cloth seats and sides I could actually reach over then I’d be writing a check today.
There are a bunch of peope who want trucks that are less giant. It’s starting to dawn on folks that full-sized trucks are sub-optimized for the driving that the great majority of them actually do.
I suspect it’s MOST people in general, the Rivian is “small” for a truck, and the Tacoma is the baby Toyota, a truck that size, is first closer to what a regular truck owner would “need” in terms of size, and since it’s smaller you don’t end up with some 4 ton rolling EV brick.
As a CDJR salesperson, the renegade was dead last year.
I’m morbidly curious to time travel and be in the room as they devised this scheme. Was it “Mwahahaha” or was it sterile, coded corporatespeak about retention and friction and such? Fascinating to contemplate.
My wife and I were buying a base Kia Soul several years back for use as a commuter car. The car had been sitting, mostly hidden, on the lot for a while, I assume so they could advertise having a cheap base model and then steer customers into more expensive models when they came in. At any rate, it was a cold night…
Finance person: “The anti-theft etching is $750...”
Me: “I didn’t ask for that and I’m not paying for it.”
Finance person “But it’s already been done...”
Me: “ I don’t care. I didn’t ask for that and I’m not paying for it.”
Finance person “Well we can’t take it off, so...”
Me: “Not my problem. I didn’t ask for it and I’m…
There is phenomenal stand-up bit by the late John Pinette about this, but told through the lens of the extended warranty on a TV from Best Buy:
It honestly never even occurred to me that EVs didn’t have OBD-II. Is the regulation really written in such a way that they are exempt?
I dropped the hate right when the latest gen Prius came out. Damn thing looks slick as fuck! I'll have to drive one, but I'm seriously considering a Prime when I turn in the Polestar next year.
The clock in my car is set to the correct time, and I didn’t have to change anything. I just had to wait 8 months.
Hi, I’m a guy who works at a dealership in the heart of rural truck country.
How about we appreciate the cars for what they are, and leave your personal feelings about others’ political views out of it. So sick of this site’s politics on their sleeves...
I test drove a Y. Was it a good car? Yeah. Would it work for me? Sure. Did I hate evrything in the touchscreen and that made it a very frustrating and potentially dangerous driving situation, at least until you get used to it? Totally. Do i still think having to open the glove box with the screen or voice command is…
Yup. Hard to take the complaints seriously when the footprint rule still exists.
Switching to the footprint model makes sense:
Went to my local dealership at the end of summer for their sale and they had a 2 door hard top Wrangler out front. I walked towards it, was looking at it and the young salesman flat out told me “oh that’s a display model, we can’t sell you that” why not? “Oh it’s a base model, no one wants the base model” I want the…
