a 5/100 reliability? I mean...why would it not be popular?
I bought a 21" lawn mower and brought it home *in the box* in my convertible. Fit nicely in the back seat.
So do *nothing*? Building strong helps in *most* cases. That’s the point. You can’t prevent everything but you can not have to replace roofs on twice/triple as many houses.
And there’s the problem. Do you want someone choosing whether your stuff is ‘rotting’ enough for enforcement while the boat next door, in similar shape isn’t fined? I’m sure you’d accept that ‘judgement’ without complaint right? Or do we just allow rotting piles of former boats. Etc. Regulations get created to apply…
Yeah, the Chinese gov’t has been an interesting evolution of autocracy. The meme about building the Egyptian pyramids “Slavery it gets shit done” (I know it wasn’t slaves, it’s a meme) is indicative though. When a top down driven policy can be pushed, it can happen very very fast.
That’ll be a jury question strike by the defense. Gonna need a dozen or so to overcome their ‘auto strikes’
fuel/transmission is irrelevant to the speed issue. Trucks get *horrible* mpg obviously. A major factor in that is wind resistance. By lowering speeds by half you gain 4x reduction in that resistance. (hills/mountains are a separate issue as well).
next car I have to buy I’m going in with a newspaper (ha!) and I’m going to hold it between them and the dash and tell the sales monkey to use the controls...without being able to see them.
THIS! Absolutely loved those vents on our 626 way way back.
I’m still legit floored that car companies can just “make things literally unsafe” without some sort of test. Touchscreens just should not be ‘input’ devices. I have 2 12+ year old cars and am most definitely not looking forward to this ‘feature’ when it’s time.
so funny i keeled over
yeah, the other better solution is having the autonomous trucks run at *optimal* speeds. Without a driver, trundling along at 30-40 mph for 20 hours nets more miles than a full speed driver, at lower charge usage etc.
One of the layoffs was a guy who literally slept in his car at work to log more hours.
it’s FSD Full Self Destruction
The question is whether the downsides of nuclear are worth it. They are for the moment. As you said things are always changing. And one change is the vast upward ramping of renewable and storage.
We’re currently exploring enough great filters to be able to look directly at the sun without much harm. just sayin
