Agreed, back when lights were a significant part of energy usage it made some sort of sense. Now not so much.

I would think there would have to be some semi-permanent habitation...drives go bad and need replacement. As do robots who could do the replacements. Etc.

The only thing the Moon provides in terms of benefit would be super dooper off-site cold storage in event of Chixulub v2. The delays in latency would make it seriously old school comms.  Absolute *minimum* 2-3 second latency built in.

Hilarious fact, when I stayed at an Air Force base in Tuscon, AZ, I learned that when choosing housing, they may get to choose a house with either natural (i.e. desert) landscape yard or a grass landscape.

even if it was super safe, earth orbit latency is bad. The friggin MOON?

Yes. Or really anywhere else but here. Please send it away.

Take your star....no need to be picky, lots of ‘em up here

You simply bury it. Most advanced ideas for mars are using old lava tunnels. You have a pre ‘built’ excavation that you put your stuff in. Seal it off and you can even make a walk-able habitat.

I suspect you’d simply use a, ahem, ground/moon-o-thermal setup. Simply transfer heat to the rocks.

Unfortunately scale needed just doesn’t make those viable. They will be useful for niche and edge cases though.

If Honda was intelligent they’d simply slap a battery in a Civic with 100 miles range. Absolutely would sell far better than most EVs.

The problem is we *have* to get off fossil fuels. The only palatable option in the US is EVs. We’d be farther along if we’d started this in the 80s but we didn’t.

Let me call up my 3 consultants, 2 UX engineers and this guy George from SpaceX and we’ll have a 3 hour ppt that could have been an email.

The other half attacked Russia’s fists with their faces.  Clear self-defensesky

I’ll agree 3000w per rig is def more than I was assuming.  Since there was significant electrical work done in the crawl space, some reconfig of the breaker panel and circuits is allowed in my scenario ;-)

Sorry, this always wins
