Suffice it to say I’m talking more about people with the resources to be posting things online. A back country cattle rancher in Africa is certainly going to handle the modern world going splat better than the modern world inhabitants.
Do you have sources for how much warning we might get? I think it’s measured in hours at best. CMEs *can* reach the earth in 10 hours...
‘Many’ hours is more than I’m aware of. CMEs can get here in as little as 10 hours for really big ones, days for smaller ones. The former are usually the ones we would care about.
I’m saying there is no current plan to disconnect the grids given a certain condition.

One thing the article doesn’t really address is the grid scale transformers. We can’t make them but more than a small fraction per year of the current installed number.
Assuming it’s not plugged in or is adequately surge protected, electronic devices are fine for a CMP/Solar Flare event.
Why nuke the town? I’m just establishing your acceptable ranges. *You* clearly implied the grandma was an acceptable loss.
So clearly we needed to nuke the town. I mean it would stop the armed and dangerous person with relatively minimal collateral damage.

if you have roof mounted solar panels, you generally can’t adjust the angle.
Australia just provided 100% of grid usage from renewables for 29 of 31 days in October.
LEDs are significantly less likely to burn your house down than hot incandescents on a dry tree. So you may save a bit more than a few bucks on average.
