Despite that HS experience here you are ..... among your people.  Perhaps your stepfather did you a favor?

$60K for an unregisterable illegal in the US car is certainly something.

This had happened quite a while ago, but my brothers and I were on our way to our summer cottage, in a little town in New Hampshire, riding with our parents. We had stopped for a bathroom break at a little plaza we would go by on our normal route. In the parking lot was a very nice car. It had the emblems saved so we

Middle of Manhattan, parked half on a curb, a Trabant. Not in the best or worst shape, no diplomatic plates.

A dustbuster in Rome - Oldsmobile version IIRC. No photograph, unfortunately.

Fish out of water? My stepdad bought a goddamn Unimog and drove us to school in it.

He’s probably safer without the chains there. If the hitch setup fails, which seems likely, and the trailer wanders too far from the truck the air hose gets torn off and that trailer locks up all wheels. Far safer than having it hold on to the truck without any real attachment.

So, technically (assuming this is empty), it is well under my truck’s limits. With the hitch I have, i could even hook it up and make a reasonable attempt at lights...but even HD pickups with ratings into the 30000lb+ towing arena only come with electric trailer brake controllers.  Using a compressor to force those

I just noticed two things I figured I’d bring up. It looks like this person did try to run some lights which you can see under the doors in the same picture with the triangle. Probably tow lights but I’m not sure where the power is coming from. The tank on that “dolly” is probably there to add tongue weight and is

Since you’re in the know, I’ve had a question for a while that you may be able to answer. Is it safe and/or legal for a 350/3500 class dually truck to tow a 40 foot container crate on a trailer? Because I see it happening frequently in my town, and it always looked sketchy to me.

YEEEAAAHH!

Okay

Great write up. This may be because it weighs significantly less but I have routinely pulled a 60’ trailer behind a pickup and was told by employers that anything bigger would require a semi and professional license but I could pull that with a class c legally.

Thanks for the excellent write up!

OK, former trucker and mechanical engineer here. I just wanted to address this kluge-job, and answer a few of your questions:

Just think of it like Lil Jon.

Everybody want to be Black till it’s time to be Black....

So what you are saying is he was down for the cause until it was time to be down for the cause?

Angry gets shit done!

Omg for real? Did you just type that?
