I don't live in the US so I'm really not sure how much an ambulance there costs, but a lot of commenters higher up in the comment threads have already given ambulance fee prices that they've encountered, so it would be better to ask them that.

The student was an adult, not a girl. She went to the school nurse who didn't agree she should call an ambulance. The fact that she went back to high school at 20, and that she could not afford the hospital bill, suggests that she may be poor, and thus unable to afford the ambulance fee (someone mentioned $900).
